Joe Stu is originally from Bronx, NY, and moved down to Atlanta, GA to attend college. Upon graduating Clark Atlanta University, his passion propelled him to take Atlanta’s open mic circuit by siege. In Atlanta, Stu was exposed to MCs from all over the nation which influenced his approach to music. He has released a steady stream of projects becoming a fixture in Atlanta’s underground hip hop scene. The genre’s golden era influenced Stu through EPMD, A Tribe Called Quest, Ras Kass, Hieroglyphics, Organized Konfusion, Krs-One, Dungeon Family, Wu-Tang and many more. Although Joe can be called a conscience rapper, his voice and aggression to attack beats can easily fool the average listener. touches on everything from racial tension to family struggles to plain straight up lyrical bombardment. As a self-described blue-collar rapper, Joe Stu’s music is relatable and catered to hip hop fans paying back student loans. He has opened up for seminal artist such as Mobb Deep, Brand Nubian, and Naughty By Nature. Joe Stu is a renaissance man who can hold his own in any artistic medium, which is what makes his music so effervescent and versatile. His experience as a published tattoo artist and illustrator have also sharpened his visual writing style. With over three years of experience, Stu often utilizes his MC skills as a Visual Art educator for Atlanta public schools. Currently, Stu is an African-American studies graduate student at Clark Atlanta University. His aim is to link the principles of hip hop with education in order to reach younger generations through academic mentorship.
